As Affirmation 2016 comes to a close what better way to end with my aspiration as a best selling published author. One of the reasons why I started writing was because I knew that one day I was going to write a book because thats what I thought all doctors did. At the time I didn’t have an idea of what type of book I wanted to do but because I knew I hated writing I knew that a blog would make it less painful.
Heading into the new year with the goal of expanding the brand there really isn’t a better way then to add a published author under my name. I’ve got a few ideas ready to go and I now have a real ambitious goal of self publishing at two next year. Becoming an author would only help feed into Dr. Berry the Podcaster, & Dr. Berry Speaker while allowing me that time freedom to teach in mass instead of the traditional one and one.
The biggest hurdle in getting a book done had always been myself (common theme), as I always wrestled with demons like
- Who wants to read a book by me?
- Why would I be any good?
- What purpose would it serve?
As a physician your whole career is dependent upon not making a mistake, which makes perfection the goal and the barrier at the same time. It took me a while to get over this thought process and come to the realization that if anything I write positively affects one person than the job is done.
“Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with it is a toy and an amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public.~ Winston Churchill
Like I have done all this week I want to end with to challenge you the reader, who may have been on the fence about jumping out into the world of writing your book. 2016 may have not been that year to put yourself out there but please don’t let my Affirmation 2017 come around and you still haven’t made the leap.
